SPECIALIST
James Barringer
Having guided Moxie students for years, James Barringer finds joy in working with students to craft their own personal college essays. He sees the essay as one of the most personally rewarding, interesting parts of the application process. He approaches all new students with curiosity and enthusiasm for the stories they have to share.
James graduated with honors from Yale University with a degree in American history. On campus, he was involved in leadership for Matriculate, a national non-profit pairing high-achieving, low-income high school students with college mentors to assist with all aspects of the college application process. A native of Washington, DC, he is a former intern at the U.S. Supreme Court and at A24, the Academy Award-winning film and TV studio. He currently works at UTA, a leading global talent agency, which represents clients in film, music, books, professional sports, and more.
In his free time, James enjoys finding new movies, reading nonfiction, and playing tennis.
Working with James to develop my ideas and essays to their fullest potential was a blast. He is kind, patient, detail-oriented, and the perfect partner to bring the best out of my writing. Jeff, James, and the whole team at Moxie guide you through every step of the process, providing invaluable experience and insights while bringing joy to an often joyless process.
