ESSAY SPECIALIST
Erica Brown
Erica has worked with hundreds of high school seniors on their college essays both through Moxie and through her longtime volunteer work with College Tracks, a DC-area nonprofit that helps low-income and first-generation students navigate the college application process. She is certified as an essay coach through a top professional training program.
Writing this important part of the college application requires self-reflection, revision, and hard work from the student. Erica is skilled at asking the right questions and listening for answers that can ultimately form great essays. She encourages her students to finalize their essays well ahead of application deadlines by diving in early and helping them stay on track through each stage of the writing process.
Erica is a professional editor with 25 years of experience, having worked in senior editorial positions at policy journals, newspapers, and government agencies. As well as working with Moxie students, she consults for clients in the fields of journalism and public policy to help them shape their publications and online content. Erica is a native North Carolinian and received her degree in English and French from UNC-Chapel Hill. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, hiking in national parks, and trying to master Asian cooking.
