Meet Olivia

Essay writing is at the heart of Olivia Tate’s teaching philosophy. She believes strong writing develops strong thinking, and she guides students through brainstorming, drafting, revision, and reflection with meaningful feedback at every stage. Her approach centers on collaboration and student agency, helping students grow as analytical thinkers and confident writers. Drawing on her background in devised theater, Olivia brings experience in collaborative writing processes where students create original pieces through improvisation, shared writing, and group feedback.

Now in her seventh year at Marshall High School, Olivia serves as the curriculum team leader for Honors US Government and teaches IB Social and Cultural Anthropology, along with a section of Standard Government. Her experience across multiple course levels allows her to work effectively with students at a wide range of writing abilities and academic backgrounds.

Beyond the classroom, Olivia is deeply involved in the Marshall community. She assistant-directs the school’s theater productions and coaches 9th grade girls basketball. By engaging with students in extracurricular spaces, she builds meaningful relationships that strengthen her classroom environment — a cornerstone of her teaching practice.

Olivia has received several district awards, including Best New Secondary Teacher in the Region 5 pyramid (2021) and the Statesmen Star Award, recognizing teachers who exemplify the qualities of Marshall’s Statesmen code.
